Del Frisco's Grille, the American steak and seafood chain which populates many other states across the country, is about to launch its Los Angeles base in place of Il Fornaio on Ocean Avenue. Does the SF Jones Architects-designed space feel like a chain? Maybe. But what's different here from other locations is an ocean view, located across the street from the Santa Monica Pier (a fitting locale), and a menu that sometimes calls to play local and seasonal ingredients. But you'll still find tried and true staples from flatbreads and ahi tacos to cheesesteak egg rolls. Some of chef Daniel Tiger's new west coast dishes are fish tacos and steamed brown bag fish with veggies from the Santa Monica farmers market. How very LA.
The bar is doing up classic cocktails with a twist and 300 plus wines by glass, carafe or bottle. Craft beers likes Stone IPA, Downtown Brown and Black Market Hef, too. Hours of operation run Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. The bar is open later.
