Grill Concepts, Inc. is the master company name behind chains like The Grill on the Alley, Daily Grill, and the proliferating Public School gastropubs. But now it seems that one of their shuttered locations in Studio City will be seeing the light once again as a new seafood concept called Laurel Point.
Though you won’t yet find Laurel Point on the company’s main brands page, some details have begun to come together as to just what exactly the new seafood outlet will look like. For starters, they’re currently hiring managers for the Studio City restaurant, describing in one Craigslist post a place that serves a variety of seafood styles, from oysters to "contemporary sushi." They’ll even be serving sake alongside a variety of wines and cocktails.
The post also states plainly that they’re looking for someone with "upscale dining management," which would indicate something a bit more formal than Grill Concepts’ Public School scenes. Eater reached out to Grill Concepts to get more information on what the place might actually look like, but so far they’re keeping mum on the project, which is slated to land sometime this summer.
It’s safe to say that this Laurel Point won’t exist as a standalone for long, however; Much like the Public School brand, which takes its name in part from the area codes in which they reside, expect more Point restaurants that hint at the street they’re on.
The Daily Grill in Studio City announced its closure last year after nearly a quarter-century on the second floor of a strip mall at the corner of Ventura Boulevard and Laurel Canyon. At the time, Our Ventura Blvd. lamented the loss, wondering out loud what might happen to those iconic pot pies that Daily Grill was known for. Ultimately, with a new menu and a new concept coming, it’s still anyone’s guess.
