EaterWire: Grilled Cheese Invitational, What's New Downtown, and The Interim Interim Café

· The 4th 2nd Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational happens somewhere downtown, sometime Saturday, but it's surely not something to miss. Sixty competitors (registration is closed, and we don't know who they are or even if they can cook) create some version of grilled cheese, as long as it has bread, cheese, and butter (or some other kind of "lubricant"). There will be judging and prizes, including the Spaz Award, which goes to the sammy with the biggest weird factor. Rules for the competition are rules to live by: No flame throwers, no clown vomit, no couch fu**king, and no almond cheese, please. The event is open to the public, and as soon as we know where it is, you will. The "cheese flows freely" at 8pm, plus there's a cash bar. There would have to be for the Grilled Cheese Invitational, dontcha think? [Thrillist]

· New on the downtown scene: The Cedd Moses-owned Seven Grand Whiskey Bar opens in April; the lunar-inspired Tranquility Base restaurant, which changes everything—décor, menu—with the seasons, opens this fall; and another Top Chef contestant, Dave Martin, is consulting for a new Southwest-type tequila cantina. · Eddie Caraeff sold off his two Newsroom Cafes (one on Robertson and one in Santa Monica) last year but kept the westside location, which is now called Interim Café. Interim because it's, well, interim: It's been slightly renovated (new paint), but Caraeff is now putting more emphasis on natural, organic, veg-friendly meals. When we called too find out when it will no longer be interim, we were told by an employee, "hopefully sometime soon." [EaterWire]
