The Six Degrees of David Rosoff, and More on Mozza

In LA, David Rosoff, general manager of the Mozzas, is like the Kevin Bacon of the restaurant scene. Throw a cork in any direction and you're bound to hit someone who's worked with him. We saw Rosoff at Bin 8945 (pictured), when his old buddy and Michael's cohort, Sang Yoon, was guest chef. There were all sorts of culinary dignitaries in the house, several chefs, people from BottleRock, Il Grano's sommelier Peter Birmingham, Los Angeles magazine's Margot Dougherty. But the way everyone greeted Rosoff, you'd think he was Batali himself. Either they knew him or wanted to; one woman even asked to take his picture. It was his night off and still very cordial. Naturally we had to ask when Osteria Mozza would open. He says July. JULY!?! We were really hopeful for that May opening. "Don't rush me," he said. By the by, Sang's menu was fantastic---more like his alma mater Michael's than current Father's Office---and the wine pairings superb. We felt like we crashed a private industry-only party.
