RIP Pastrami King: Al Langer, 94, Dies

Al Langer, founder of the 60-year-old Langer's Delicatessen-Restaurant, whose succulent hand-cut pastrami on hot rye bread, topped with Gulden's mustard, won praise as the finest hot pastrami sandwich in America — or the world, depending on the critic — died Sunday in Agoura from complications of old age. He was 94.

A little over a week ago, Langer watched over the anniversary celebration for the famed deli that he opened in 1947. The MacArthur Park neighborhood had its ups and downs over the years, but Langer and his family remained, much to the appreciation of pastrami and corned beef lovers everywhere. RIP, Al. RIP.
