Frozen Yogurt Wars Part XIII: Snowberry Opens in the Valley, CeFiore and Pinkberry Coming to Hollywood

Our brains are swimming in the oozy frozen stuff today. Enjoy with a heaping helping of fresh fruit on top.

VAN NUYS: Not far from the shop where we popped our Pinkberry, the Koreatown-based Snowberry is opening a shop at 14425 ½ Ventura Blvd. soon. We chatted a bit with the company's VP, Christopher Yi, who told us the difference between their frozen yogurt and allllll the others are the machines, which they import from Italy. They also have a peach flavor, not just plain and green tea, and they're developing new products like frozen yogurt cakes for take out. Yi asserts that Snowberry is made from real yogurt and has been certified by the National Yogurt Association. (Yes, there is one.)

Another fun fact: Snowberry's backers have started the Korean-America Soft Serve Association (KSSA) to help train entrepreneurs who want to open frozen yogurt shops. "A lot of people need help with the state's criteria to call it yogurt," he says, "so there aren't problems with yogurt shops after they open." Um, like this? Coincidentally, we're told the CEO of Snowberry had some sort of business relationship with the CEO of Pinkberry. More Snowberries are on the horizon for the OC. [EaterWire]

HOLLYWOOD: According to one excited Hound, Cefiore is opening a store across from the Roosevelt Hotel, replacing Gelato Paradiso (which really just opened itself, didn't it?). Froyo is really replacing gelato? Ridiculous, even if Cefiore is better than Pinkberry or any of the others. The poster says: "So Cefiore will have a prime spot in the 6922 Hollywood building with Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, America Apparel (the clothing equivalent of Pinkberry), and every gourmet's favorite, Hooters, and it will be just a few doors away from the new H&M. And tourists from around the country and the world be exposed to the brand, too." A rep for CeFiore says it will open by mid-August.[Chowhound]

HOLLYWOOD: Because they need to be in every neighborhood, Pinkberry has reportedly staked a claim to a spot at Hollywood & Vine. Closer to the incoming Whole Foods, W Hotel, etc. [Chowhound]
