Eater Headhunter: Looking for a Mentor
Tuesday, July 3, 2007
It's one thing to want to open a restaurant, it's another to know you don't know how to operate said restaurant. The sheer honesty of this Craigslist ad caught our attention:
I am looking for a mentor in the restaurant business to help me open up a restaurant. I have been in the business for 20 years, but still lacking certain knowledge in the business end. My goal is to open up my own place and I am looking for someone with experience that can help me start this and show me what to do and not to do.
You have to admit this person has two things going for himself (we're just assuming it's a guy): (1) he has a passion for the business even after 20 years, maybe 20 unsuccessful years, and (2) he has the good sense to know his limits. If you don't get any takers, we hear Gordon Ramsay is available to "mentor".
