Pasadena Deathwatch Cont.: E's Wine Bar Sold

While E's Martini Lounge, née E's Wine Bar, wasn't on our initial Pasadena Deathwatch List, it should've been. The last time we went in, probably last year, the "wine bar" switched to "martini lounge" in name only. Actually, a full liquor license was finally approved for the spot, so all the wine bottles in storage behind the bar were replaced with shiny bottles of booze on backlit shelves. Everything else pretty much stayed the same, including the mediocre menu and early-90s decor. The lounge held weekly "white parties" with DJs, so that tells you the caliber of clientele the owners wanted to attract. Of the two times we went in the last four years, it was never past sunset, so we're not ones to gauge its popularity. However, we know that E's is now in escrow and supposedly sold for a cool $400k. The name on the ABC license is Alek Sarkis, with a new business name One One Five (or 115). We assume another pseudo-trendy Pasadena-style resto-lounge. The phone and website for E's is still intact, so we're unsure if it's closing or just morphing.

Considering how busy Old Town is these days, this block---equidistant to the new H&M and the Paseo Colorado mall---could be the next spot to develop. The only other restaurants on this end are a new Barney's Beanery (wonder how that's doing…), a conveyor-belt-boat sushi place, Hot Wings Café, Hooters, and we thought Moose McGillycuddy's, but think that's closed too. It would be a travesty to get yet another chain, or worse, a restaurant that wishes it was a club.
