What's OC Got That We Don't Got? Dean & DeLuca

Orange County isn't high on our priority list for coverage, but every now and then we have to touch base with our rich friends down south for, you know, balance. The big news this week: The lucky bastards are getting the second Dean & DeLuca in California. Did we say bastards? We meant, um...no, we meant bastards. The new location is slated for Newport Beach, Fashion Show Mall, 2009. Surprisingly, there's no Whole Foods competition down there, so it makes sense. We're not jealous.

I love that store! Spent numerous hours in that place when I lived in NYC. It'd be great if we had one here. One more reason for me to dislike the OC :)

I asked this very question about a year ago: When will Dean & DeLuca ever decide to open an outpost in L.A.? I, too, LOVE that store! At that time, a chorus of replies screamed that Surfas on Washington Blvd in Culver City was just as great or better than D&D. NOT! Not even close. If I had to make a bet, I'd bet that D&D opens an outpost in the Grand Avenue Project. (By the way, my employer sent all employees an email saying that the parking lot (Lot 17) currently occupying the G.A.P.'s location will soon be closing to both jurors and employess so construction can begin.)

Whole Foods just opened one of its largest stores (60,000 sq.ft) in Tustin a few weeks ago.

It's Fashion Island or Fascist Island not Fashion Show Mall. Your Vegas is showing.
