Dish: Melrose Bar & Grill Now Open

We wouldn't be so amazed at the quick changeover from Doug Arango's to Melrose Bar & Grill if it was just a coat of paint and some new plants. The place wasn't gutted, but it's a completely different look for the Melrose spot, and we're told, a more casual vibe. That's what owners Chris and Julie Bennett are going after anyway. On the menu: duck bruger with gouda and cherry ketchup, cider-brined pork chop with house-cured sauerkraut, thin-crust pizzas, and daily specials. Everything under $25.

Melrose Bar & Grill
Casual, neighborhood, hearty

Doug Arango's surprised us LA foodies with a real shocker. With no notice and to great success, the favorite desert/WeHo restaurant just reopened as the Melrose Bar and Grill. Same owners, same excellent chefs, same A+++ wine list but a completely new fabulous menu and innovative concept. They just shut down for a few weeks and re-emerged with this hip, wonderful new hangout. I am not a bar and grill fan but when my husband and I started to eat, we fell in love with the place. Don't think English pub, think exactly where they are, the heart of chic West Hollywood. They really nailed the area and the clientele. Chef Chris Bennett came up with a winning menu that works as bar and grill menu so perfectly, that you forget this menu concept is only a few weeks old. He can't go wrong. We loved seeing the younger crowd in there along with the loyal older guests. It is a real mix of ideas, food, crowd but the whole thing works perfectly. If you were familiar with the old decor, you will be relieved to know that the new designer created a masterpiece. Light, hip, fresh, modern, warm, cool and HOT!!! Everything on the menu is flawless. The beer on tap is local, or so we heard but wish there were more to choose from. After all it is a bar!! A++++ all the way!!! GO!!!
