BREAKING: LA Michelin Guide Debuts Nov. 12
Tuesday, October 9, 2007

2007_10_la%20michelin.jpg

With all the hubbub going around about how many stars New York chefs lost or gained, LA finally gets to the party. We have the official release date for the first Los Angeles Michelin Guide: Chefs and media (and invited guests of launch party) find out who got starred and who didn't on November 12. Contain yourselves, chefs. Everyone else: Place your bets on three stars, two stars or no stars in comments (thanks Taste-Buzz).

On November 14, the LA guide debuts to the public. To commemorate, a panel discussion and book signing will be held at the Grove Barns & Noble with Jean-Luc Naret, director of the Michelin Guides, and Bon Appetit editor-in-chief Barbara Fairchild, LAT's Leslie Brenner, and KCRW's "Good Food" host, Evan Kleiman. Another key date is November 15, when the Las Vegas guide debuts (Nov. 16 to the public).

Ooh, can we play a game like what they do on Curbed? My guess for three-star recipients:
Urasawa
Providence

2.

Almost no Japanese restaurants have more than one star, if Masa didn't get three then Urasawa won't.

I agree that Providence = 3 stars. Dude's comment about Urasawa is probably right, though it does deserve three, it will probably get two.

Spago = 2
Valentino = 2
Hatfield's = at least 1

Will restaurants like All' Angelo, Fraiche and Foundry make the list, even though they opened this year? If so, they all deserve at least 1.

Hmm... there's more but I have to get back to work!

I highly doubt any restaurants in LA will get 3 stars. Maybe spago, valentino will be close. Interested to see how Melisse will do, as well as providence. Vincenti maybe one star? How fun taking guesses.... Mozza should get something too I hope. For Japanese restaurants Matsuhisa has always been strong...ok ill stop

5.

Nothing in LA will get 3 stars. If bastide was open longer it would easily get a 2. With comme ca, Alain's Guirads new restaurant, and the other ex-bastide chef opening up another restaurant, LA is truly coming up. I think having a recurring michelin guide will change the
focus of the city from sceney to foodie/sceney. More chefs wont leave our market in search of a michelin star.

four 2-stars and maybe 15 one stars. That is a good introduction.

Orotolan, Angelini Osteria, AOC, Grace, Lucques, Water Grill (maybe), Patina (maybe), might get some love.

Whatever LA gets, its list will be growing FAST from year to year.

I am knew to the world of Michellin - I can't wait to see what happens! What a great way to decide where to eat - I want stars, baby!

Only Urasawa is capable of some major loving. But if Masa can't get three, there's little chance Urasawa will as well. If OC is included in the list, Stonehill Tavern might have a chance at 3, although I hear they are having problems with wine-pairings lately.
