We heard from a spokesperson for the new Barrel Malibu, which just had a soft open a week ago, that although things were singed on the outside, the wine bar survived flames that touched the Malibu Colony Plaza yesterday: "The building that the wine bar is in did catch on fire. It was the roof of the Bank of America and there were hot spots around Barrel Malibu, but they didn't have to poke through the roof. They did bust through the front door though." The interior wasn't damaged and the owners expect the wine bar to reopen by Wednesday "in case there's anyone out there drinking." We have a feeling there are plenty of Malibu residents in need of a drink about now.
