EaterWire Mid-Day Edition: Gus Bar-B-Q Shuttered Until '08, Café Muse, Amaranta Cocina Helps Firefighters
Tuesday, October 30, 2007

SOUTH PASADENA: We have an update on Gus's Bar-B-Q, which is officially under new ownership with the brothers Bicos (Chris and John), who also own the Original Tops in Pasadena. The restaurant is closed as of Monday to begin remodeling. The menu is getting a revamp, too, but faithful Gus patrons shouldn't fret: The menu will have some new items, but some the classics will stay. Tentative reopening date: Probably January '08. HOLLYWOOD: A Wilcox & SMB neighbor emailed: "Just walked past this MUCH needed soon to be open eatery in my neighborhood, Muse Café. Looks pretty cool. Know anything more?" Well, the website says it's located at 6547 Santa Monica Blvd., and will be organic, veg and veg-friendly café fare, plus entertainment (everything from jazz to spoken word to cabaret), and rotating local artwork. It also says expect an early-November opening, but we don't have confirmation on that yet. [EaterWire Inbox]

CANOGA PARK: If Nobu's PR can put it out there, so can Amaranta Cocina Mexicana's. The Mexican restaurant donated 100 tamales to displaced victims and firefighters that were holed up in the Sepulveda fire station last week. Amaranta is in the Westfield Topanga Canyon mall, and opened a couple months ago. [EaterWire Inbox]
