We heart renderings

DOWNTOWN: New details have bubbled up for Union Restaurant & Lounge, a 10,000-square-foot eatery going in the ground floor of the Union Lofts at 8th and Hill. Owner John Valencia, LA native who recently returned from Miami, has an ambitious vision: Retain some of the original Art Deco decor (look at that ceiling! those columns!), there will be two floors, 200 seats plus a patio, cocktail lounge, live entertainment, the works. The chef is Jeffery Nimer, also from Miami but opened Lavande (pre Ocean & Vine) at the Loews Sanata Monica, and has been David Geffen's personal chef; mixologist is Andrew Willett. Since this was originally a bank (cool historic shots on the website), the underground vault will be converted to a lounge. Even more ambitious: Valencia hopes to open by summer 2008.
