Here we have a little sneak peek at South, a new restaurant and bar opening in the former Punch Grill space this week. A few Southern-bred guys from Q's and Barney's Beanery are behind the venture, but they swear they're going for a slightly less frat-boy vibe. It's not fancy, just a place to watch sports, drink Abita beer from New Orleans, maybe eat some fried green tomatoes or pickles, barbecue ribs, muffaletta sandwiches or po' boys. Think Bourbon Street meets Beale Street meets Santa Monica. Officially: South opens at 5pm Thursday, April 10. Unofficially: A tipster writes that there's a soft open tonight.
