Plywood Report: Provecho, BOA WeHo, Elvino, Aroma Bakery & Cafe, Local, Cafe Bravo in Silver Lake
Thursday, July 3, 2008, by Lesley

As usual, we have our weekly roundup of Plywood around town. See something going in or coming out? Please do drop it in the tip jar. Photos welcome.

DOWNTOWN: On our last check in with Gabe Morales (Polo Lounge, Fenix, Boa, Republic/Romanov), he sounded hopeful that his modern Latino restaurant Provecho would open in May. Current status: "We are pushing to try and finish this place up. We are looking to possibly open the doors around the middle or last week in August." [PLYWOOD]

HOLLYWOOD: The phone message at the original Aroma Bakery & Cafe (the one in Encino, not the one on Tujunga in Studio City) still says this new location in the former Rock-n-Roll Denny's (7373 Sunset Blvd) will open "soon." A staffer tells us "in about a month." [POST-PLYWOOD]

WEST HOLLYWOOD: There's a lot of activity at Luckman Plaza on the west end of the Strip, with plenty of signage announcing the BOA Steakhouse move. Word is it will happen in fourth quarter 2008, which is about what we initially heard. And let's not forget the Soho House West Hollywood going into the penthouse in early 2009, probably just in time for the Oscars. [PLYWOOD]

SILVER LAKE: According to Zagat, chef Jason Michaud, who recently helped turn Goudas & Vines into Three Drunken Goats in Montrose, set his sights to open Local in a former Eastside Mercantile spot on Sunset. Expect "ethnically eclectic dishes made with locally produced ingredients" and an opening some time this summer. [PLYWOOD]

SILVER LAKE: Per Eating L.A., an offshoot of Glendale's kebab-arific Cafe Bravo will open next to Hard Times Pizza on Griffith Park Boulevard mid-to-late July. [PLYWOOD]

VENICE: Our friends at Yo! Venice stopped in to talk to the owners of the forthcoming Elvino on Abbot Kinney. "They are building away in there! Lot of skinny wine-stocking shelves, a big counter, etc… Bart [the owner] didn’t seem to want to commit to an actual opening date, or month, or year - but he did say 'this summer.'" [PLYWOOD]
