Local: In other Venice news, The Otheroom folks are opening up a New York-style deli right next door to their dog-friendly watering hole. Construction has recently begun at 1205 Abbot Kinney to make way for a 2,000 square-foot deli concept called Local that will have a vintage feel with tons of cheese, charcuterie, sandwiches, the works. Cold cuts and such will be priced by the pound, with beer and wine also for sale. Based on the construction permit, the space will be strictly for take out and retails sales only, as no seating is allowed. While the shop is still pretty raw, vaulted ceilings and a sky light are in the works with an estimated opening of early October. [EaterWire]

Casa Linda: After Tortilla Grilled shuttered, owners of Hal's took over the space with the intent to reopen as a different Mexican restaurant. Looks like the pieces are slowly falling into place and Casa Linda, which will have seating on the second floor, should open in about three weeks. [EaterWire]
