Salvatore Marino, owner and chef of market-driven Italian Il Grano and casual cousin La Bottega Marino, is up to some good. Word on the street is that the man also known to grow 40 varieties of heirloom tomatoes in his backyard is taking a break from gardening to open up a pizza joint/deli on Little Santa Monica and Bedford in Beverly Hills. Expected to kick off later this month, the casual trattoria with a currently undisclosed name will resemble La Bottega and serve simple Italian fare. No complaints here because 1) Sal's food rocks and 2) Beverly Hills is in need of a good pizza place. [EaterWire]
