Are those behind Gjelina trying to take over Abbot Kinney Blvd? Right now management is working on opening that next door to-go place, then there were rumors that Gjelina and co. was potentially interested in taking over the shuttered Axe further west. Here's the latest, and it sounds pretty crazy. Take a long look at 1305 Abbot Kinney because soon that building will disappear. Gjelina owners bought the space with plans to demolish the current structure and rebuild a new restaurant. But, here's the catch. Due to very specific permitting for that property, the new restaurant must have 12-13 private parking spaces, but quite obviously that seems impossible. SO, to get around that issue, owners have decided on rooftop parking. They will build a parking lot on the top of the restaurant and use some type of car lift/elevator to get the vehicles up there. No joke. As far as the food concept here, similar to Gjelina, another market driven type eatery. [EaterWire]
