Beer bars are all the range sweeping this city from Pasadena to Culver City to Playa del Rey to...Torrance. Up above, renderings of 1321 Downtown Taproom Bistro, a project helmed by Max Schlutz of MOD (manage/operate/develop) Restaurant Group. Schlutz strives to bring smart restaurant concepts to emerging neighborhoods, hence his decision to open 1321 in Torrance.
Fifty craft beers such as Greenflash Le Freak and Allagash Curieux will be on offer, however those looking for a stiffer libation can opt for a garden cocktail like The Shakespeare (Hennessy, Domaine de Canton, peace wedges, lemon verbena leaves and honey) or the Red Lion (Hendricks Gin, ruby-red grapefruit, fresh Thai basil, simple syrup and soda).
Former Oaks chef Greg Paul controls the kitchen churning out elevated pub fare for lunch and dinner: “Green and White” flatbread with clams, crushed garlic, spinach and béchamel ($10.50); Chicken and Waffles with blue corn, truffled horseradish honey and goat’s milk butter ($14); and the 1321 Burger, with house-ground prime chuck, brisket, short rib, pub cheese, stout onions and slab bacon ($12.50).
1321 opens in early May for dinner, followed by lunch and brunch in the coming weeks.
