Unfortunately, no further specific time frame has been set for the debut of Walter and Marge Manzke's République and Factory Baking Company, the next hot topics and eagerly anticipated restaurant and bakery opening, supposedly, this spring at Factory Place Arts Complex in the Arts District downtown.
Curious as to République's construction and whatnot, Eater decided to pop by the space for a looksee and, well, not much going on. Actually, nothing at all going on. Spring 2012? As a recap, the Manzkes here are building on Walter's tenure at Church & State with a haute bistro concept offering 140 seats, a bar, al fresco dining, and a 20-seater private dining room. Meanwhile, Factory Baking Company aims to serve baked goods, lighter cafe-style sandwiches/salads, and some larder products as well.
But, above, a look inside the Manzkes' handsome industrial space which claims an 8,000 square foot plot on the east side of Factory Place Arts Complex. When one enters the parking lot that is on the NE side of the space, one can see the LA Gun Club. Then, on the western side of the building sits a swimming pool. Dinner, a nightcap, and an evening swim? Perhaps.
