On July 23, Sam Spector, previously of The Culver Hotel, opened Mondo Taco in the former home to Little Kitchen on La Brea near San Vicente. The small, unassuming fusiony taco shop uses made-to-order corn tortillas as the base for tacos and wraps stuffed with everything from Hebrew National hot dogs to Moroccan lamb with chimichurri to tempura shrimp with avocado and spicy mayo. Spector explains that he discovered this space in an "underserved neighborhood" which he felt "could use a wholly original concept ... gourmet tacos featuring international cuisine." [EaterWire]
