Welcome to lunch. When Chipotle doesn't cut it, let founder Steve Ells feed you a taste of his next fast casual enterprise, ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen. And this here Hollywood outlet, which opens on June 17, is only the second ShopHouse in the country, the first of which launched in D.C. and the next of which will roll out in a prime Santa Monica 3rd Street Promenade corner space. Westwood is in the works, too.
Casting burritos and tacos aside but following Chipotle's quick-serve assembly line model where customers order at a counter and customize meals from an open kitchen, ShopHouse focuses on bowls with flavor profiles from Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Singapore. Start with a base of jasmine or brown rice, chilled rice noodles, or salad; then add proteins like chicken satay, steak laab, pork and chicken meatballs, or organic tofu; followed by veggies; one of three sauces, green curry, spicy red curry or a tamarind vinaigrette; green papaya slaw or pickled veg; and finally add texture with toasted rice, crushed peanuts or crispy garlic. All for under $10. Hours of operation to run daily from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
