It will be interesting to see how Angelenos take to Top Round, and whether they'll make the drive to S. La Brea and Olympic for inexpensive, chef-driven, fast casual roast beef sandwiches crafted with quality ingredients by a more than competent team. After all, Anthony Carron of the wildly popular 800 Degrees is behind the throwback menu of regionally inspired roast beef sandwiches and frozen custard desserts, along with talented former XIV chef Steven Fretz. Noah Ellis of Red Medicine is on the management side and Jamie Tiampo of beloved West Village, NY staples Dell'Anima and L'Artusi is involved as well.
Maintaining its shack-like structure, Bee's Donuts has been transformed by movie set designer Charisse Cardenas (also responsible for Red Medicine's aesthetic) into a retro indoor/outdoor quick service joint with mod outdoor tables and an overall vintage orange, red and gray aesthetic. There's Coke Freestyle machines and even a sprinkles dispenser to which Ellis gives the thumbs up. Drop by to try starting June 17.
