Late breaking. Umami Burger's march toward burger dominance takes a major step with a new location planned for Downtown's Arts District, scheduled to open some time this summer. This comes about a year after Umami's initial planting in Downtown with Umamicatessen. Taking over the former District BBQ (and before that, Korean BBQ) on East Third Street, Umami Burger will have an industrial, modern feel that employs local art and furniture designers like Westin Mitchell Design Group. There will be 60 seats and a rear courtyard for al fresco dining. Taking over the defunct space is typical Umami-style, and this place should be a game-changer for the budding neighborhood.
