Andrew Lujan of Cacao Mexicatessen completed construction of his Baja wine bar, Vinos Del Valle, adjoining his successful Eagle Rock Mexican deli at the beginning of June. His restaurant is now loaded with bottles of Tijuana craft beer and Baja red and white wines available by the glass. One can also order a flight of all Baja wines for $12.50 and Lujan is working on a Baja cheese tray of sorts to accompany the vino.
Vinos Del Valle feels like a traditional Mexican wine cellar (or "cava" in Spanish), with splotchy burgundy-colored walls and grape imprints stamped along the leather seating. There is a widescreen television in the middle of the bar that plays whichever important soccer game is on at the moment. Not to mention, a good-sized bar menu with traditional Mexican cantina snacks. Cacao also has a happy hour that runs Tuesday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. with a glass of Mexican red going for $4.95. It's only a matter of time before Oxy students find out.
