Starting January 1, 2014, restaurateurs will have to heed new rules from the IRS regarding automatic gratuities placed on checks. Automatic tips (like the 18% charge for groups larger than six) will be taxed just like regular income. Previously it was up to servers to report these service charges as income. [SF Biz Journal]
