EaterWire Q&A Edition: Yet Another Something New in Culver City, Grill Lyon in Little Tokyo, Help in OC
An Eater brain can only hold so much information, therefore we turn to you, dear readers, to help us with some of the questions overflowing in our inbox. Got the 411 on something? Let us know.
LITTLE TOKYO/DOWNTOWN: "Do you have any information about what happened to Grill Lyon? Their phone seems to be disconnected." True. Disconnected. According to this LAT piece from 2005, Grill Lyon has been jumping around but somehow surviving since 1981. Apparently not this time. [EaterWire Inbox]
CULVER CITY: "Any idea if the new place going in next to Ugo in Culver City is another restaurant? They have some wood doors up where the glass window was on the Entemanns outlet store and that's all." We really don't know. Anyone else? [EaterWire Inbox]
NEWPORT BEACH/OC: We don't always head down south, but since this reader lavished us with so much Eater love, we thought we'd give it a go. "Wanted to see if you had any scoop on what is going on with the now vacant for months Tutto Mare space in Fashion Island? Inquiring locals want to know. With its large size and undoubtedly obnoxious Irvine Company rents, I fear another outpost of some lame chain." OCers, we're all ears. [EaterWire Inbox]
Eater Mail Bag: New Sushi on Third, DeathWatch Watch, and More Restaurant Riddlers
A few interesting items have landed in our inbox over the last few days, so we're tipping the bag over and dumping everything on the floor. Got something to say? Eschew paper cuts for some inbox love.
(1): "G Garvins was replaced by a Katsu-ya owned sushi bar? Drove by last night (8620 3rd St.) and didn't catch the actual name. It was closed for a private party." We don't think it's a Katsu-ya-owned spot or SBE. But we'll take suggestions. [Eater Mail Bag]
(2): A reader forwarded the newsletter for half-priced food night at Dolce Enoteca (Mondays) and then asked, "Doesn't this qualify them as DeathWatch?" Hmmm...on the surface, yes. It does. Plus, the Dolce Group is about to open Ketchup on the Strip. But we haven't been there forever. Anyone else? [Eater Mail Bag]
(3): The news about Gotham Hall's closing left us questioning its replacement. From a fan: "I was one of those (maybe the only one) who (really) loved that place. Living in Santa Monica was hard and now it will become harder without a place to play pool and listen to a Britney remix from 2003. Thank god I moved to NYC. Gotham Hall will soon become a Forever 21." [Eater Mail Bag]

Ask Eater Answers: News on Yu, Barfly space, Barefoot
You asked, so you shall (partially) receive. We promised answers to Tuesday's Ask Eater questions, and we found what we could. We're not perfect, but you love us anyway. Send along questions for next week. No regifting.
(1) West Hollywood: A tipster sends word that a company called One LA Management "will be in charge of the new place called One Sunset in the former Barfly space that you can drive by and miss nearly every time." Now, to find out about One Sunset...
(2) Bevely/Fairfax: It's true that Barefoot has gone through some changes, including hiring new chef Shawn Davis and changing the menu a bit. The GM says they're still tweaking things here and there, so maybe expect more changes in the future. As for the former Barefoot chef, we don't know where he landed.
(3) Santa Monica: Trolling for answers about Yu Restaurant & Lounge in Santa Monica, we got the equivalent of blank stares from SBE, the group that owns the property. So we went to SBE's PR, BNC: "Yu is still closed and right now we really don't have any update on the reopening plans." Phone message still says "reopening in approximately mid-September." We know that's not true, so we'll keep on 'em.
