The Dish Sweets Edition: Crumbs, Paulette, Antigua Bread, Grateful Bread

Who needs tangy frozen yogurt anyway. Here, some recent arrivals you can really sink your sweet teeth into. See something throw open its doors? Dish here.

BEVERLY HILLS: New York export Crumbs was technically supposed to open this Friday, but we just heard from owner Harley Bauer: "Most likely after the weekend now. A few minor delays of course." Hear that, Sprinkles? You get a few more days before it's an outright cupcake war. [9465 S. Santa Monica Blvd., 310.550.9811]

BEVERLY HILLS: A few blocks away, Paulette Koumetz's macaron shop Paulette soft opened last week, in a space designed by Sprinkles creative director Andrea Lenardin Madden. Looks like someone just lobbed a macaron grenade into the the Great Cupcake War. [9466 Charleville Blvd., 310.275.0023]

HIGHLAND PARK: The highly-anticipated traditional Guatemalan bakery Antigua Bread finally opened last week. Hounds report good sandwiches, solid breakfast and---as we'd expect of anything from Guatemala---great coffee. [5703 N. Figueroa Ave., 323.259.9345]

SANTA MONICA: Yes, that new French bakery on Montana serving pastries and a few sandwiches is indeed named Grateful Bread (must... refrain... from... making... stoner... jokes). From the same folks who brought us Brentwood's Belwood Bakery. [1518 Montana Ave., 310.394.7178]

The Dish: Tanzore, The York, Bar Hayama, Tracht's

OF COURSE there's more than just Osteria and Craft this week. Here then is The Dish, a smattering of other recent debuts. Know of something that just opened in your neck of the woods? Let us know.

BEVERLY HILLS: The family behind the Gaylord Indian restaurant have finally opened Tanzore, which looks very sensual, rich colors, tapestries, hand-carved wood accents. We're not going to do it justice without repeating the press release verbatim, so we'll just leave it at that. But there's no better time to check it out than this month: For the next two weeks a "preview menu" will be discounted by 30%. So eat cheap now, see the space, go back with an expense account later. [50 N. La Cienega Blvd., 310.652.3838, www.tanzore.com]

HIGHLAND PARK: Two emails were dropped in our inbox about The York, which took over the Wild Hare and opene don 7/12. One tipster was in for friends and family previews and says: "It looks and acts like a true gastro pub...had the catfish which was great, they had already run out of the fish & chips. Looks like martinis will be under the $10 mark unlike the $12 3oz Ketel pour up the street at Marty's." Gabe Byer owns the spot with Ryan Ballinger, a couple of one-time bartenders at Edendale Grill. Check out the menu on the website. [5018 York Blvd., 323.255.9675]

Osteria Mozza Watch: Opening Friday the 13th?

2007_06%29osteria%20mozza%20ply2.jpg

We said it before, we'll say it again: It's not just hot this July, it's a hot month for restaurant openings. Last week we spotted Tom Colicchio's Craft on OpenTable accepting ressies for July 16, and now we receive word about Nancy Silverton and Mario Batali's much anticipated sister to Pizzeria Mozza: "Friends and family mock dinners start tonight. If all goes well, Osteria Mozza will be open for service by Friday the 13th." That's THIS FRIDAY, people. "P.S. the food rocks, all of it." We don't doubt that for a second because although Osteria Mozza's website is being renovated, Mario Batali's is not, and it's there that we find this:

In the heart of this brand new Osteria rests Nancy Silverton’s free standing Mozzarella Bar – the pivot of Nancy, Joe and Mario’s creation – both literally and figuratively. Here, Nancy prepares a wide array of fresh items from Mozzarella, Burrata, Bocconcini, Strachiatella and many more.
There are high tables for people to gather near the bar, plus a main dining room with lots of window seats, and a private dining room. With Nancy's once-a-week cheese nights becoming a regular occurrence, fighting off the cheeseheads will become a sport. Trying to keep composure here... The rest of the menu has salumi, pasta, meat and seafood dishes "as conveived by Mario Batali and executive chef Matt Molina." Oh, and full liquor license too. Vanilla Bake Shop, Red Mango, Craft, Osteria Mozza all in one week? Begin fasting…now.

EaterWire: BottleRock Changes, Zu Robata Opening, Larkin's Update, Antigua Bread Delayed and MORE

CULVER CITY: Changes are afoot for BottleRock. One of the co-owners, Adam Fleischman---who did all the interviews, worked the room, talked the place up---is out. We're not exactly sure who the other owners are, and what, if anything, will ultimately change at BottleRock. Because there might be some litigation involved, we don't have all the details. But Fleischman doesn't sound too negative. "I am opening a high-end wine bar and several other fun projects. Stay tuned." [EaterWire]

WEST LA: A tipster sends word about Zu Robata, which we know is moving into the former Casa Antigua spot on Wilshire Boulevard. She heard the Japanese resto was opening by May 10, but that might be a bit ambitious. A call just revealed that "we're going through final inspections now, so we'll see." Hopefully within two weeks. [EaterWire Inbox]

DOWNTOWN: Another reader sends word about a restaurant going into the Sky Lofts (801 S. Grand Ave.) called Tranquility Base. The liquor license is pending, but that's about all we know. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? [EaterWire Inbox]
