Cafe Santorini
Stationed on a second floor in Old Town Pasadena, Cafe Santorini opened 25 years ago with Mediterranean and Lebanese fare with a romantic patio that overlooks the One Colorado Courtyard. If dining during warmer months, there’s a canopy in place to protect diners from the sun. During the evenings, the patio is always lit by candlelight.
Benny Boy Brewing
This Lincoln Heights casual brewery with house-made cider and beer has an expansive patio with ample seating. There’s always something happening with food pop-ups, board games, watching local sports teams, or listening to DJs that might result in the occasional electric slide.

Damian
Over in the Arts District is one of LA’s most beautiful and slightly enclosed outdoor dining spaces. Notable chef Enrique Olvera’s LA restaurant serves polished, modern Mexican fare. Fear not if it’s a chilly night, the patio stays warm thanks to the thoughtful design, heaters, and four enclosed walls.
Manuela
The warehouse-like space and expansive patio inside Hauser & Wirth gallery are breathtaking. It’s also where Manuela chef Kris Tominaga creates Southern classics paired with California flavors in a spacious, airy, and beautifully lit at-night space.
Le Champ
Le Champ is the Arts District’s relaxed and casual wine bar that opened in October 2023, and it’s bursting with old-world charm. The 3,000-square-foot, open-air seating area has midcentury furniture and lit candles. At the same time, the kitchen serves cheese platters, charcuterie, raw oysters, burgers, and fries to supplement the rotating plats du jour that can encompass a handful of entrees, appetizers, and desserts.

Loreto
Since opening in an industrial Frogtown space in 2023, Loreto is one popular al fresco dining spot. The interior rooms are ideal for dining, but the patio is romantic and a great place to eat chef Paco Moran’s ambitious Mexican seafood menu. During the days, the patio converts to Mariscos Za Za Zá serving more casual ceviches and tostadas.
Botanica Restaurant and Market
Botanica’s two patios are an oasis in the middle of Silver Lake. Only blocks away from the historic reservoir, the patios are bright, festive, and pair perfectly with the Baja striped bass, Japanese sweet potatoes with salsa verde, or the coriander-encrusted ribs.
De Buena Planta - Plant-Based Mexican (Silver Lake)
Silver Lake’s De Buena Planta is best experienced in sunny weather with its lush patio, colorful design, and uncovered patio. If in need of warmth, heat lamps are available along with an inventive plant-based menu. This is a place to linger while eating and cocktailing, while the occasional DJ helps turn up the vibe.
Mírate
Aside from a handful of rooms, Mírate is a multi-level, open-air restaurant with natural light and a canopy to protect diners from the elements. Chef Joshua Gil and partner Matthew Egan introduced this Los Feliz restaurant in 2022 where Gil creates modern and personal takes on tacos, ceviches, mariscos, and cochinita pibil that can be enjoyed in one of LA’s most beautiful dining rooms. Try to reserve a table on the top floor.
Great White Larchmont
Australian-influenced Great White expanded to Larchmont in 2021. Similar to its Venice and West Hollywood locations, the newest outlet is doused in white with all-day LA dining sprinkled with Mediterranean and a lesser dash of Asian flavors thrown in for good measure.
Dulan's On Crenshaw
After a two-year transformation, Dulan’s on Crenshaw reopened in January 2024. Owner Greg Dulan still offers his tried-and-true soul food menu but added two outdoor dining spaces to make sure customers can enjoy the smothered pork chops, fried chicken, and candied yams while on the rear patio, or while watching life go by on Crenshaw Boulevard.
Ardor
It truly feels like an oasis at chef John Fraser’s West Hollywood restaurant Ardor. Most tables are surrounded by foliage with gorgeous dark wood family-style benches beneath heat lamps. No matter what’s ordered for the table, don’t skip on the milk bread.
Bar Bohemien
In 2022, Bar Bohemien underwent an expansion to its rooftop bar, giving it one of the best vantage points in Culver City. Drinkers can order food from the first-floor vendors like Go Go Bird, Uoichiba, and Bang Bang Noodles and bring it upstairs to feast.
Dante Beverly Hills
The views are splendid at Dante. Head to the Maybourne Beverly Hills and straight to the ninth floor to take in the direct view of the Hollywood Hills. The Italian-meets-Mediterranean menu relies on market-fresh ingredients, seafood, and coastal Italian flavors with blistered wood-fired pizzas, crudo, and boozy affogatos.
Funke
Directly on top of chef Evan Funke’s popular restaurant is Bar Funke. A second-story rooftop is a rare sight in Beverly Hills, and this one exudes charm with cocktails, the full menu, and one hell of a view. The bar can now be reserved from Monday to Thursday while weekends are reserved for walk-ins.
Hatchet Hall
Hatchet Hall’s beautifully-lit patio works well for al fresco dining. No matter which chef is at the helm (as the restaurant has seen some turnover in the past few years), this Culver City restaurant continues its tradition of serving stellar seasonal Southern fare rain or shine under a large canopy.
Cobi's
In Santa Monica, sit on the slightly covered patio and order a glass of wine with Cobi’s dry-aged grilled branzino with yellow curry and mint, beef short rib with chili and tamarind dressing, jungle curry, butter chicken, or the tasty gado gado.
Casalena
On this massive property, the family-operated Casalena has multiple places to dine that are either completely outdoors or feel that way. The atrium with vaulted skylights is one of the best places to try the coastal Mediterranean fare, but so is the patio surrounded by lush greenery, a fully enclosed terrace with floor-to-ceiling glass, or the second-floor private sunroom.
