Ivan Kane Comes Home, Taking Over Schwab's

HOLLYWOOD: So Ivan Kane will not open a Forty Deuce in New York as planned. Things apparently, uh, didn't work out. But here was a little tidbit we found in one report:

Kane, who moved his family to New York while building the club, has returned to Los Angeles to open his Hollywood restaurant and lounge, Café Was, and will focus on opening Forty Deuces in San Diego and — pending negotiations, we’re told — perhaps Atlantic City.
This sounded familiar to us, and yet fuzzy. Then we remembered: Kane was rumored to be involved with the Schwab's spot at Sunset + Vine months ago, and today we have confirmation. He's working on a restaurant/lounge concept called Cafe wa s in that space. No, not a typo; it's "wa s." (How L.A. Story.) The explanation for the spelling: "Schwabs. Café wa s--- get it? was-- schwabs?..There will be a formal announcement about who he's teamed up with in the restaurant world." What a tease! They're looking at first quarter '08 for the debut.
