The Dish Drink Edition: S Bar, V-vin

HOLLYWOOD: Only teasing last week, SBE's new S Bar officially opened yesterday. This is a bar we can really get behind, as long as we can get in: We're fond of the upside down lamps, the candelabras, the drinks made with artisanal gin (or any kind of gin for that matter). Doors open every night at 8pm and we're told no table reservations, no list, no typical Hollywood "club" crap. Just go as you are, grab a seat in one of the mismatched chairs or at the bar, order some crazy concoction and enjoy Philippe Starck's whimsical side. SANTA MONICA: On the opposite end of the spectrum---geographically, aesthetically, vibe, um, -ly---Valentino's V-vin wine bar opened yesterday. (The projected August debut is right on time.) Pierro Selvaggio's getting hip with the kids: There's a six-seater bar, a few tables, flights of wine and food, discounts on bottles, but very little under $10. It's still more casual than the restaurant. [3115 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica, 310.829.4313]
