EaterWire: Avenue's Finale, Amarone Kitchen & Wine, Robata Bar, V-vinbar, More Froyo

The Wire lines are always open.

MANHATTAN BEACH: As previously reported, tonight is the last night for Avenue, Christian and Teddy Shaffer's American bistro. The couple decided to close the restaurant, as well as Chloe a couple years ago and leave the Ojai project they were involved with, to spend more time with family. Last we heard the new owners of the space are Bernie Weiss and his son Darren, currently a chef at the Ritz-Carlton Dallas. [EaterWire]

SANTA MONICA: It's amazing how fast some projects can open the doors. Sushi Roku's new adjacent Robata Bar will open next Tuesday, October 9. No reservations, just go as you are. Grilled things on skewers, raw bar, Japanese beer. We're down. [EaterWire]

SANTA MONICA: After a few false starts, Valentino's V-vinbar will finally debut on October 15. Wine and food flights, not as expensive as Valentino's regular menu in a more casual, come-as-you-are space. [EaterWire Inbox]

WEST HOLLYWOOD: A reader sends word that Amarone Kitchen & Wine opened four days ago (8868 Sunset Boulevard). Owner Alessandro Polastri told us the 49-seat spot is his first restaurant in LA, that he owned one in his native Bologna. "Amarone is casual and elegant with traditional dishes from Emilia/Romagna focusing on my families recipes. Our wine list features approximately 120 Italian wines. The chef, Guisseppe Musso, is a childhood friend who has spent time in some of the top kitchens including EuroChow Westwood and La Luna Las Vegas with Marco Porceddu. We will be open for lunch and dinner 6 days a week." [EaterWire Inbox]

DOWNTOWN: The Frozen Yogurt War Continues: "Milano Freezer “All Natural Real Non-Fat Frozen Yogurt” opened yesterday at 123 S. Figueroa, on Fig between 2nd and 1st. At least we don’t have to haul down our butts to Little Tokyo to get our fix. Apparently there is another location BH, that the people on chowhound like. Their website is under construction but a flyer I saw was giving 3 topping promo yogurt for $1 today only. I work across the street and don’t have time to go over today but co-workers have gone and are reporting back with positive comments." Ok, that was yesterday. Sorry for the delay, but yes, another froyo shop in downtown. [EaterWire Inbox]
