We just got off the phone with Joe's Pizza in Santa Monica. Owner Joe Vitale says the final inspection should be today, and if all goes well, those pizza ovens will be fired up tomorrow. That's Wednesday, people, farmer's market day. Food day. Now officially dubbed NY Slice Day. Unless it happens Thursday, but that's a whole other story. Point is: Joe's will open this week. New York City's original Joe's Pizza opened in 1975, and it's a perennial Top 10 lister. Vitale told us earlier this year that he's shocked at the pizza people sell in this town, especially the "New York" style. We hope he gives everyone a run for the money. Disappointment is not an option. [111 Broadway at Ocean Ave., 310.395.9222]
