This was our first full year of doing what we do on Eater LA, and for this editor, it's been a doozy. I've been a writer for many years, but I've never had more fun than this blog?or more notoriety. Yes, yes, self-promotion is a bit tacky, but I can't help point out that Eater LA was mentioned in the New York Times, New York Post, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, CNN/Money, Salon.com, and the Wall Street Journal this year. A few stories caught the eye of celeb bloggers like Perez Hilton, Defamer and TMZ, which always helps the pageviews. And many local food and city blogs were good to us, especially The Knife. I had a blink-and-you-missed-it moment on ABC's Nightline this summer, and next spring I'll be on two upcoming TLC programs, all because of Eater. Really, that's just friggin nuts.
I never tire of hearing that we're someone's must-read blog of the day, and that even those who hate it, love it. And while I mostly write this thing solo, I can't take all the credit---it couldn't happen without all of you great readers, publicists, chefs, managers, bartenders, servers, diners, neighborhood obsessives and fans. Special thanks to all the regular tipsters (Dick, Sam, Neil, Kris to name a few), to Alissa for helping out when I wasn’t here, to those owners who always answer my annoying emails (you know who you are), and to photographer Alen Lin for his eye-catching work. And a big thanks to the head honchos at Eater HQ in New York who sign my paycheck. Without you, I wouldn't be eating as well as I do.
Be safe this New Year's Eve, and here's to more Plywood, breaking news, Deathwatches, debuts and general mirth and dining gossip in 2008.
Cheers,
Lesley
