The Shutter: Gotham Hall's Going-Away Sale

If you buy something from an Eater link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics policy.

All restaurants inevitably make that final trip towards the light, and here we welcome them at the pearly gates of Shutterwood. It always helps to see a familiar face. And so the circle of life continues...

The day the groovin' died in Santa Monica: Gotham Hall closes for good on Feb. 10. We didn't know this, but apparently a good number of people found GH palatable. It could've been the something-for-everyone vibe; Yelpers will miss it. The website says it's because the owners lost their lease, which industry insiders suggest will happen a lot this year because rents continue to escalate in LA. Gotham Hall puts everything up for sale to liquidate on Feb. 18, all kitchen, bar, refrigeration, lighting, sound systems, TVs, pool tables, furniture, right down to the hand-blown Corriea Glass lamps from the dance floor. This begs the question: What's taking over that Third Street Promenade spot?
