Well that was fast. We just heard that Sideways, which just took over the Sterling Steakhouse space, will be changing concepts in a few weeks. Our friend Jonathan Mitchell, who was the sommelier at the Chris Breed-owned restaurant, emailed us yesterday that his popular Wednesday wine tasting nights were "canceled until further notice," which sounded a little shaky. Today we find out what's happening: A Hollywood promoter (Johnny Zander? The guy who played Roy in Coyote Ugly?) will be taking over in a few weeks, possibly changing the name to The Green Door. It may or may not be serving food/needing a sommelier. Does this mean Chris Breed gave up the Cabana Club and Sideways, or just Sideways? We don't know for sure (story developing). But Breed's White Lotus is undergoing renovations and will reemerge as Ritual in April, so he still has something up his sleeve. As does Mitchell, who's now looking for work.
