There's nothing like a reader phone pic at the end of the day. Here we have Gonpachi, the Japanese import taking over the old Ed Debevic's space on La Cienega in Beverly Hills. Seems like construction has gone on for.ev.er., but it's t-minus two days and counting before the grand opening soiree on Saturday. Global Dining, proud parents to Santa Monica's Monsoon Cafe and WeHo's La Boheme, owns the Tokyo-based izakaya. From our spy:
Went to new Japanese restaurant on La Cienega last night for soft opening and it's amazing. They are offering 30% off if you mention family and friends tonight and Thursday night. Food is great and restaurant is like being in Japan. There's a 50-50 chance this is full-on shill, but we'll go with it. The restaurant opens to the public on Sunday April 1.
