Eater has a non-Eater assignment in Paso Robles for the next few days, and by assignment we mean tasting more than 100 wines. Posting will be light. However, we'll offer a few dispatches from the road. Enjoy!
David Lentz and wife/supermom/A.O.C./Lucques chef Suzanne Goin opened a second outpost of the Hungry Cat in downtown Santa Barbara on April 24, and we popped in for a nosh on our way up the coast. Suzanne was in the house, dressed casually, working the pass, making sure everything was going smoothly. This Cat doesn't take reservations, and the bar was full; Goin said it's been like that from day one. The space is brighter than the Hollywood location, maybe a little bigger inside, but no patio. The chefs cook right in front of the bar. Pure entertainment. The thing about the Hungry Cat is that it knows exactly what it wants to be: good food, good service, casual, fast, drinkable. Santa Barbarians can't get enough. Oh, and big congrats to the two chef/owners: Suzanne had her twins five weeks ago, a boy and a girl.
