EaterWire: Munchkins Makes Way For Al's Flying Garage, Tanzore Hiring But Far from Opening, More on Chill

CULVER CITY: What's with Culver City and the gasoline theme? Muchkins at the historic Culver Hotel (just a hop away from Ford's Filling Station) has been replaced by Al's Flying Garage, an homage to flying aces and good old-fashioned American diner food. The gal who talked to us today said it's kind of WWII, but we think it's more post-war, especially since 50's music plays in the background. We only have snippets about the changes: The theme is sort of aero-mechanic, the servers wear Dickies and Converse, the girls Rosie-type handkerchiefs on their heads. We're told the burgers are good, fixed multiple ways, plus fries, shakes, salads, sandwiches. Al's is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner. [EaterWire]

BEVERLY HILLS: We found an ad on Craigslist looking for FOH staff at a "modern Indian cuisine" restaurant, which we think is Tanzore, the new upscale spot from the family behind Gaylord Indian. Sounds like they were hiring this week, but we hear the space is still "very much under construction." It also says the restaurant will open softly next week, but PR claims mid-June. More official verbage: Lots of white marble, a giant screen showing the latest Bollywood hits, the main dining room has an "Egyptian tub" in the middle of the room. Sounds lavish. Palatial, even. HOLLYWOOD: In Club Buzz today, we find more deets on the Star Shoes space, which had a change of ownership sign in the window last time we were in the 'hood. Former Barfly GM Steve Fowler plans to open an upscale lounge in the bi-level space "without folks getting hasseled at the door" He's partial to the name Chill, but sounds like that could change any time.
