PASADENA: Another historic restaurant bites the dust. According to Witness LA, Monty's at the corner of California Blvd. and Fair Oaks Ave. will close on Saturday, after 66 years. What's more, the staff only got a week's notice.
It wasn’t supposed to go down like this. The original closing date was July 31, but the deal is closing early, said Monty’s grand-daughter, Debbie Levine, general manager of the restaurant. She said she found out last Friday along with the rest of the crew. “It’s really sad for all of us. We all knew there was something in the works, but none of us realized that it would happen as quickly as it did.”We haven't been, but this Eater sent her BF over for a steak and martini while we were in the emergency room at the Huntington hospital a couple months ago. He said he couldn't believe he spent $60 on such a "craptacular" dinner. Some people like sub-par though, and for those, another Monty's remains open in Woodland Hills. It's sad to see yet another funky old-school restaurant close.
