We had dinner at the Penthouse this weekend, two days after the LAT's scathing review by food section editor Leslie Brenner. Looking over the menu, it's obvious the Huntley Hotel owners and chef E. Michael Reidt have a good sense of humor. Brenner called attention to the "Definitely not French!!! spring onion soup" in her review, and it looks like they've honored her right back.
One thing Brenner had on the money: the place is damn loud, especially on a Friday night. Every table was full, everyone was eating. Our back was to the lounge area so we could watch the sunset over the ocean, but when we turned around to leave---BAM!!!---the throng of people spilled out of the bar area. Who knew it was such a hot spot?
