EaterWire: The Ivy's New Bakery, More Car Crashes in Eagle Rock, Apples and iPhones at Noe, MORE

We have a melting pot of tips, questions, and gossip this afternoon. Got an answer or something to share? The door is always open.

WEST LA/CULVERish: A regular tipster writes: "I heard a rumor that The Ivy is opening a less expensive "cafe" on Robertson SOUTH of Pico. It sounds like a weird location. Dunno if you've heard anything." We didn't, but we called and found out that it's not a café, but a wholesale and retail bakery. The Ivy staffer we just spoke to says the still unnamed bakery will have gelato, cookies, breads, pies, tarte tatins. It's located near Hamilton High School, the same side of the street, and she said they hope it opens by September. [EaterWire]

DOWNTOWN: Want an iPhone that bad? Get thee to the Omni Hotel downtown and try to win one. Ignore the cheesy mini apple orchard in the lobby. Don't ignore the $55 four-course apple-inspired tasting menu at Noe. Monday through Wednesday next week, July 23-25. [EaterWire Inbox]

EAGLE ROCK: When we reported on the car crash that closed Cindy's diner last week, a reader said: "Funny, this must be a bad restaurant epidemic. As we were waiting for a table at Casa Bianca on Friday, a late model Buick kamakazi'd Pete's Blue Chip Burgers, a mere half-mile away from Cindy's. Coincidence? Hardly. It seems the vegans are on the rampage again." Made us giggle. [EaterWire Inbox]

SANTA MONICA: We're queried: "Do you know anything about Novel Cafe opening up on Ocean Park and 30th? It's in the same complex as The Counter." We called the original Santa Monica location and confirmed that it's the same Novel Café, probably more like the Westwood location with sit-down tables. The manager was unsure of the opening date.
