WEST HOLLYWOOD: From a WeHo worker who likes to write in very big font: "The long-gestating restaurant NONNA is open on heavily trafficked Sunset Blvd at Doheny Rd (a few blocks West of Doheny Dr.) I went for lunch today and don't think it's half bad! Rustic Californian-Italian food is served for lunch and dinner. Sensibly-sized portions at prices that rival its neighbor the Hamburger Hamlet (or sorry, now named the Hamlet on Sunset). Pizzas are the thing to order: Nicely oozy, 12-inch thin crust pies with toppings such as sausage and mushroom. Pastas are also good as is the antipasti appetizer platter."
Nonna replaces Joss next to Blowfish Sushi, and chef/owner is Paolo Giovani, the "much loved and respected chef who opened Il Sole and owned it for many years, back when it was a great restaurant," a reader said in June. The restaurant opened this week and serves lunch Mon-Fri from 11am-3pm, and dinner Mon-Sat until 10:30pm. Here's the menu. [9255 Sunset Blvd., 310.270.4455]
