Bob Popescu, 77, died at his home on Saturday. He and his wife opened the Catalina Bar & Grill in 1986, and cemented its status as one of LA's top jazz clubs by bringing in Dizzy Gillespie for a show in 1987. "Bob was a visionary," says bassist Richard Simon. Services are tonight, 7pm, at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. [LAT]
