What the eff is the big deal about women eating alone? One reader rants to NYT's Frank Bruni: "We are usually treated as lepers or morons. It starts with the servers who angrily remove the extra place setting. The waiter (regardless of their gender) gives us a sympathetic, tight-lipped smile and a knowing nod. We are rushed out the door as soon as possible —the check on the table with the main course.” Who doesn't know that the cardinal rule for dining out alone, no matter what sex you are, is to eat at the bar. It's always worked for us. [Diner's Journal]
