EaterWire: Pomegranate Froyo Wars, Even More Recession Dining, SF's Pizza Antica

New, 9 comments

FROYO WARS: We told you Red Mango was launching a new Pomegranate flavor (and giving it away Thursday at the Westwood store), but Grub Street learns that Pinkberry also has a pomegranate flavor planned. The froyo wars are still so on! Red Mango's Dan Kim was "caught off guard," but is content that the larger chain is "raising awareness of the pomegranate category." What's more, he has a new flavor up his sleeve: "It’s a flavor that can’t really be described by naming other fruits or foods...It’s an experiential flavor that I’ve been working on a long time.” [Grub Street]

SANTA MONICA: Because we just don't have enough pizza by the beach (Joe's, Richie's, Riva for starters), Bacchus Restaurant Group (owners of Spruce, et al up north), has their sights on expansion and will be bringing a Pizza Antica to Santa Monica sometime in 2009. [Chron/Inside Scoop]

WEST HOLLYWOOD: More recession deals: A reader alerts us to a deal at Cheebo on Sunset---"any pizza, pomodoro pasta or tuna/chicken salad sandwich WITH soup, salad, fries or escarole AND a soft drink, glass of wine or tap beer, all for only $9.95." Deal is only good 3pm-6pm weekdays. [EaterWire]
