The Dish: Little Dom's Deli, El Bar, Lawry's Carvery Debut This Week

It's getting close to the holidays and just a few spots are bold enough to open during this time of year, therefor today's Dish Report focuses more on what's coming this week than what already has. Did we miss some other debut? In the tip jar, please.

1) Los Feliz: Little Dom's little deli soft opens on Wednesday (Dec. 17). It's a cute little number, just next to the restaurant on Hillhurst. The menu: panini, pastas, salads, and desserts to go, along with coffee and an espresso bar, for take-out or to dine in. [2128 Hillhurst Ave; 323.661.0055]

2) Cahuenga Pass: Craig Trager's El Bar opens Thursday (Dec. 18). The space is in the strip mall right by the 101 entrance on Cahuenga in what used to be The Bridge (but most remember it as the Casting Office). Trager, whose Vintage Bar Group also owns The Woods, The Well, and The Fifth, says the space has Spanish and Mexican art, wrought-iron chandeliers, inset wall candles, bullfighter tapestries, and a real bull's head hanging behind the bar, but still "big on sexy." There's an extensive tequila list, specialty cocktails and sangria, and if you get hungry, the new 161 Street Pizzeria next door concocted some bar-friendly pizzas and snacks that they'll deliver to your seat at El Bar. The Bridge decided to go with the no signage philosophy, but not Trager: "There's a gian red neon sign that flashes El Bar?El Bar. You can't miss it." [3256 W. Cahuenga Blvd]

2) L.A. Live: Although we last heard it would open today, Lawry's Carvery opens this Friday (Dec. 19). This might be one that the office workers take to: Expect hand-carved prime rib, turkey or beef brisket sandwiches, salads, classic Lawry's sides, but because the entrance is right on Figueroa, it's easy pick up for take-out. The Farm, which was also supposed to open today, has been pushed back to next week. [1011 S. Figueroa St, 213.222.2212 website]

4) Santa Monica: The switch over from Temple Bar to Dakota Lounge is complete, according the Guide. The two surfer-peace-love-and-harmony owners will continue live music. [1026 Wilshire Blvd, website]
