Westside East Coast Pizza Fight: Richie's Opens

Last year we saw signage for Richie's Famous Pizza on this empty storefront on Ocean Avenue. Last month we heard Mulberry Street Pizza was opening on Ocean Avenue. Put these two together and you have Richie Palmer's Pizzeria, which opened about two weeks ago, just a block and a half from Joe's Pizza, the newer NY import. Can you ever have too much pizza in one neighborhood? No. Even bad pizza is good pizza, people.

Bronx-born Richie Palmer, former husband to Raquel Welch, is one of the original founders of Mulberry Street Pizza. Palmer changed the name to Richie's Neighborhood Pizzeria and opened in Orange County and around the country. So you see: Mulberry, Richie's, it's all related. The Richie's menu is short and sweet, thin-crust pizza, and there's delivery. Before you eastsiders start whining that westsiders get everything: Glendale's Americana at Brand will get a Richie's "in a couple months." (1355 Ocean Ave, 310.255.1111)
