Plywood: Two Drago Brothers to Open Gitano

BEVERLY HILLS: We broke the news last July that Giacomino and Tanino Drago scooped up the behemoth Luce space on the corner of Canon Drive and Dayton Way for a new restaurant concept, and today we have the official word: It will be called Gitano (a play on their first names) and will feature contemporary Italian fare with a seafood focus. This seems like a good pairing: As any proper Beverly Hills grand dame would, the space has had many makeovers over the years (Luce, Bice, Avenue and Mistral), but the Dragos are synonymous with successful Italian restos in LA. Giacomino owns Il Buco, Piccolo Paradiso, Il Pastaio (just a few blocks from Luce), Celestino in Pasadena, Panzanella in Sherman Oaks, and Bel Air's Sushi House Unico (SHU) thrown in for good measure, and Tanino owns Tanino in Westwood---and none have a specifically Italian seafood focus. We walked by a few weeks ago and heard the sweet sounds of construction inside, but they probably won't open Gitano until late July.
